  1. Your Float needs lowering

The float regulates the water level in the tank. You can modify this float to customise the flushing action of your toilet. If it’s set too high, the fill valve won’t shut off and water will leak into the toilet’s overflow tube. to stop the water running continuously lower the float below the overflow tube.

  1. Your Flapper is leaking and needs replacing

The flapper allows water to enter the toilet tank while keeping further water from entering. The water can flow continuously if there is damage to your flapper or the chain that raises and lowers it.

  1. The Refill Tube is too long

Your toilet may run continually if the refill tubing is positioned incorrectly or is excessively lengthy. Repositioning and shortening the refill tubing will stop the toilet from running continuously.

Depending on the manufacturer and if serviced regularly, hot water units can last from 8 – 20 years.

Your pipes are making a loud banging and knocking noise that is known as a “Water Hammer.” When a valve suddenly closes, the water that is currently flowing through the pipe collides with the closed valve, causing water hammering. The hammering sound is produced by the shockwave this impact causes, which rattles your pipes.

In addition to making frightful sounds, this strong vibration can eventually harm your pipes. A water hammer arrestor can be installed to address this issue. This device uses a sliding piston to lessen the force of the rushing water.

Give Liam at 1stop Plumbing and Gas a call if you think the vibration is severe or if the noise is becoming worse.

Most common causes:

  • Fat, oil and grease: don’t treat your drains like a garbage Shute they will eventually clog and block.
  • Hair: accumulation of hair slows the flow in the drain or can cause total blockage.
  • Food: dispose properly in the bin to avoid blockages and rotten food smells.
  • “Flushable” wipes: these are not designed to biodegrade effectively in the drainage system and will block over time.
  • Hygiene products: Always dispose in the garbage, these are not biodegradable.
  • Tree Roots: If you like in an area with forestry landscape monitor for any changes to water pressure or increase in water charges as this may indicate a broken or leaking pipe.

Nope, not at all – try these quick trouble shooting ideas before you give us a call!

  • Plunging:

A plunger usually springs to mind when considering how to unclog a blocked drain. Using the plunger to seal the drain, push down to force air through the clogged pipe and remove the obstruction. To provide adequate pressure, make sure to stop both drains on a kitchen sink if you have two sinks. Plungers come in a variety of designs that are intended for specific kinds of drains; for example, the plunger for a kitchen sink should not be used on a toilet.

  • Chemicals:

A mixture of chemicals (always read the labels as many are toxic and acidic) can be used to dissolve and remove drain obstructions. Most hardware stores carry products like hydrochloric acid and caustic soda. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area and wear breathing mask and thick rubber gloves when handling these substances. Please follow the directions on the product you used as you run risk of poisoning yourself and breaking the pipes.

A nontoxic combination for unclogging drains is a mix of ½ cup of bi-carb soda, ½ cup of salt, 1 cup of vinegar, and one cup of hot water. This method doesn’t pose a risk to your pipes or your health. You may need to use this method several times before the pipe is completely unclogged.

If you’re still having trouble, phone Liam on 0459 991 826. With our up-to-date equipment and the most recent advancements in plumbing technology and maintenance, we will have your drains unclogged and as good as new in no time at all.

  1. Ensure your shower head is clean and remove any grime and limescale build up.
  2. Replace the shower head if its old and worn
  3. Install a shower pump if you’re serious about increasing the water pressure in your shower. As the water travels from your tank to your shower, it will go through the shower pump. A properly installed pump will increase the water pressure of your shower. Ensure before you look into this option, We have had a look a what is causing the lack of pressure first to ensure there is no other underlying issue.

The primary shut-off valve for water can be located in a few locations.

It is usually located on the ground, close to the front of the house and the property line, covered with a tiny metal or plastic lid. Remove the lid (you may need to pry it apart with a screwdriver). To stop the water flow, turn the tap to the off position.

The shut-off valve in townhouses and apartment buildings may be somewhere else on the property—possibly in a cupboard. Get in touch with your landlord or body corporate to find out its location.

Give 1Stop Plumbing and Gas a call on 0459 991 826 if you need assistance locating the shut-off valve, and Liam will be able to help you.
